How Balinesse Celebrates Nyepi (Silence)

As it has been best practices for Balinesse for years, the NYEPI (Silence) tradition to comemmorate the Hindu New Year - Caka 1932 this year falls on March 16, 2010.

Seen from above picture is a silence scene at one of Bali's famous beach - Kuta Beach where on normal days were always full with tourist and visitors both domestic and international, on Macrh 16, 2010 was set to silence with zero activities include road along the beach which was seem like being abandoned.

Above scene was not only at famous Kuta Beach but it is implemented island-wide. Each district (Banjar) assign Pecalang (traditional security personel) to monitor their local community to adhere with rules and regulations such as ensure that lights are dimmed at night and must not flashes out the houses.
